Rutgers Cancer Institute Physicians Named Among Tops by 'Newsweek'



'Newsweek' magazine recently released the list of the nation's top physicians for cancer care in conjunction with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., which publishes 'America's Top Doctors.' Nine Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey physicians are included in the list of 40 'Top Cancer Doctors' named from New Jersey. The national list is based on peer nominations and review of credentials, awards and expertise.Learn more

Reaching New Heights in Precision Medicine with ORIEN



Joining other top cancer centers across the country, Rutgers Cancer Institute is now part of the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network (ORIEN), collaborating on a massive precision medicine research initiative to personalize cancer treatments for patients. Using a single clinical trial protocol known as Total Cancer Care®, ORIEN members from around the country share de-identified patient tissue and clinical data to enable researchers and clinicians to quickly match eligible patients to clinical trials and conduct more comprehensive analyses.Learn more

Body Mass Index Impacts Ovarian Cancer Chemotherapy Dosages



Ovarian cancer patients who are overweight or obese are often given less chemotherapy per pound of body weight in order to reduce the toxic side effects associated with higher doses, and this in turn may lower their chances of survival, according to a study conducted by Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey epidemiologist Elisa Bandera, MD, PhD, who is also a professor of epidemiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and School of Public Health, along with Kaiser Permanente colleagues.Learn more

Examining a Two to Three Day Radiation Course for Breast Cancer



Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey is leading a clinical trial examining if a certain dose of radiation given over a short period of time to the part of the breast affected by cancer is beneficial. The TRIUMPH-T trial will explore the effect of radiation delivered over two to three days versus longer periods associated with traditional radiation therapy. Atif Khan, MD, radiation oncologist at Rutgers Cancer Institute and associate professor of radiation oncology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, is the principal investigator.Learn more

Free Prostate Cancer Education and Screening Event Offered September 15 - 17



One in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and it is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men other than skin cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. That is why Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and its flagship hospital Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital are joining forces to offer a free prostate cancer education and screening event to provide men and their families with a better understanding of the disease. A kick-off event for the community was recently held and registration for the event is now open.Learn more
