Allstate New Jersey Lends a Hand in Cancer Fight for CINJ

 

Allstate Quarters for a Cure

When one thinks of a "quote," words of wisdom usually come to mind. But in talking about an annual campaign with Allstate New Jersey Insurance Company that benefits The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ), the word "quote" takes on a different meaning - one with impact on saving lives. Now through October 1, Allstate New Jersey will donate $10 to the CINJ Foundation for every life or auto insurance quote requested through any of Allstate's New Jersey agents. The 2012 "Quotes for a Cure" effort marks the fourth year of this program to support CINJ.Read more

Fellowship Grant Provides $92K for Metastasis Research at CINJ

A research associate in the laboratory of Edmund C. Lattime, PhD, deputy director of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, has been awarded a post-doctoral fellowship grant totaling $92,000 to further explore and better understand how HER2 positive breast cancer metastasizes to the central nervous system. Keneshia Haenssen, PhD, was selected as one of only ten investigators nationwide to receive the United Negro College Fund (UNCF)/Merck Postdoctoral Science Research Fellowship.Read more

A 'Night of Illusions' Will Celebrate Pillars of New Jersey's Cancer Community

For all the 'magic' he has performed in helping young people with cancer, the immediate past chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey will be celebrated during a 'Night of Illusions' at the annual Award of Hope Gala hosted by the CINJ Foundation. Barton A. Kamen, MD, PhD, will be honored on October 25 at the Somerset Palace in Somerset with the "Award of Hope for Leadership in Research and Patient Care." Dr. Kamen and other honorees will be recognized for their spirit, passion and dedication to the fight against cancer and their support of CINJ.Read more

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Pediatric cancer is the second leading cause of death in children according to the American Cancer Society. More than 12,000 children nationwide will be diagnosed with cancer this year, but the prognosis for these youngsters is not as poor as it used to be. The five-year survival rate for children with cancer is 83 percent, which is up from 58 percent in the mid 1970s. The Cancer Institute of New Jersey offers the latest in comprehensive treatment, research, and services for this unique population, including a program for childhood cancer survivors.Read more
