The Cancer Institute of New Jersey Oncology Group (CINJOG)

The Cancer Institute of New Jersey Oncology Group, also known as CINJOG was established in 2003 as the state’s first effort to utilize a network of physicians, nurses and researchers to perform multi-center cancer clinical trials in New Jersey. CINJOG combines the strengths and skills of our state’s expert providers to improve research, education and cancer prevention in New Jersey.  CINJOG transports the science, talent and compassion of CINJ to the entire state of New Jersey so that patients are able to receive promising new treatments closer to home.  In turn, the answers to research question scan be found more quickly by increasing the numbers of enrollment.  This model is similar to the way CINJ participated in national cooperative group clinical trials, such as those for the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) and the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). CINJ’s membership in these important groups makes it possible for New Jersey residents to have access to new therapies being studied throughout the nation and some cases, the world.

As new clinical trials are opened at CINJ in New Brunswick, efforts are made to make sure the trial is available to Physicians in CINJOG practices across the state so that they can then offer the study treatments to patients in their local offices, close to home from their own physician.  Study data from the patients’ care is entered into a research database in the physician’s office and can be reviewed by the CINJ principal investigator and other research staff at CINJ in New Brunswick. CINJ sincerely believes that the collaborations of these dedicated professionals will lead to more rapid development, implementation, and completion of high quality cancer clinical trials that will help us achieve our goal of eliminating this deadly disease.
