Cox Classic Charity Golf Outing to Support Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey

Registration for October 5th event now open

Cox ClassicNew Brunswick, N.J. – Registration is now open for the 26th Annual Steven A. Cox Charity Classic, which will benefit Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The event will be held October 5 at New Jersey National Golf Club in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

The “Cox Classic” – which was once known as one of the largest single-day amateur charity golf events in the country – has raised some $6.5 million over its history. Through the years, a portion of this funding has supported various programs at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, including the Prostate Cancer Program, the LIFE (LPGA pros In the Fight to Eradicate breast cancer) Center, and the Steven A. Cox Scholarship in Cancer Research.

“The Cox Classic continues to deliver on its unwavering commitment to helping people in need, including those with cancer. We are so deeply inspired by Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, its outstanding research, patient care, and leadership in the field of oncology and are pleased to be supporting these initiatives once again,” says Steven A. Cox Foundation Chair Mike Marion.

The tournament began simply in 1990: eight individuals doing what they could to help out Steve Cox, their friend and colleague, who was battling cancer. Although he fought his illness with grace and determination, Cox died at age 32. More than a quarter century later, the Cox Classic honors the memory of Steve Cox, while providing a networking platform for its corporate sponsors and educating participants about the event’s recipient, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Joining in the fight and participating in the tournament are mix of current and former LPGA and Symetra Tour players, led by Val Skinner, a six-time winner on the LPGA Tour, champion in the fight against breast cancer and long-time Rutgers Cancer Institute supporter. In addition to golf, the Cox Classic also provides a full breakfast, morning clinic, lunch, dinner reception, skill and team prizes, live auction, raffle and gift bag.
