Prithvi Narayan, MD, FAANS
Section Chief, Pediatric Neurosurgery
Associate Professor of Neurosurgery

I joined the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital - Bristol Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences faculty on December 1, 2017 as associate professor and section chief of pediatric neurosurgery. I am a board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric neurosurgeon with a special interest in pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors and pediatric epilepsy surgery. I work closely with the pediatric hematologists/oncologists at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.  I received my medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri and completed my residency training at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia, followed by a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at St. Louis Children's Hospital in Missouri.

With more than a decade in academic medicine, I have served on the faculty of such institutions as Mount Sinai School of Medicine in Manhattan, NY; New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY; and Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Most recently I served as director of neurosciences and medical director of pediatric neurosurgery at Valley Children's Hospital in Madera, California. Multi-published in peer-reviewed journals, I have also made significant contributions to books, chapters and monographs and am actively involved in teaching and training residents and medical students.

The Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Bristol-Myers-Squibb Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive pediatric neurosurgery services for problems relating to the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Minimally invasive and microsurgical techniques with advanced intra-operative tools are utilized to surgically treat a variety of neurosurgical conditions including but not limited to cancerous and benign tumors. Working collaboratively with the team at Rutgers Cancer Institute and other pediatric subspecialties such as neonatology, neurology and neuro-psychology, ophthalmology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, otolaryngology (ENT), we ensure high-level, compassionate, coordinated care for infants, children and adolescents.

Pediatric Brain and spinal cord tumors, Neuro-endoscopy, Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery, Craniofacial Surgery, Hydrocephalus, Spina Bifida and Tethered Spinal Cord, Chiari malformations and Syringomyelia, Surgical treatment of Spasticity, Moya Moya Disease/syndrome, and Vascular malformations.
