Physician Profile

Robert Aiken, MD
Neuro-Oncologist
Director, Neuro-Oncology

I joined Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in August 2015 from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where I served as the Director of the Comprehensive Brain and Spine Tumor Center, and Director of the Section of Neuro-Oncology. I was an Associate Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Medical Oncology. Prior to Rush I was on the faculty at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.

I am a recognized leader and clinical researcher in brain cancer and neuro-oncology. I serve as a Principal Investigator of the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG) and Alliance, and a member of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) - CNS Tumor Section, and the Alliance Neuro-oncology Brain Tumor (CNS) Steering Committee.

My research interests include clinical trials of therapies for brain tumors, evaluation of novel agents for the treatment of brain and spine tumors, developmental cancer and early transitional therapeutics.

Working closely with experts across multi-disciplines in the Brain and Spine Tumor Program, including neuro-surgeons, radiation oncologists, neuro-radiologists, nurses and nurse practitioners, and social workers, I provide patients with a comprehensive evaluation and help educate them about their disease so that they can make informed decisions about their treatment options.

I am the author or co-author of many articles in peer reviewed journals as well as book chapters and I present regularly at national and international professional meetings.

I have been named as an 'America’s Top Doctor' and 'America’s Top Doctor for Cancer' by Castle-Connelly for the past four years, the 'Best Doctors' list and as one of 'America's Top Doctors' in Chicago, New York Metro area, and Philadelphia.
