Physician Profile

I am a board-certified urologic surgeon with expertise in the treatment of urologic cancers. Examples of the types of tumors that I treat include cancers of the kidney, testis, bladder, and prostate. My main areas of expertise include kidney-sparing surgeries (or partial nephrectomy) for localized kidney cancers, radical kidney surgery (or cytoreductive nephrectomy) for advanced kidney cancers, and nerve-sparing retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) aimed to preserve fertility in men with testicular cancers. When appropriate, I offer minimally invasive surgical techniques (laparoscopic and robotic) to treat patients with urologic cancers. My goal is to offer patients the most effective and individualized cancer treatment while preserving and maintaining quality of life following surgery.
I joined The Cancer Institute of New Jersey faculty in 2009, after having completed both clinical and research fellowships in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. I received my medical degree (MD) from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine as a scholar in the Honors Program in Medical Education, my masters in public health (MPH) degree from Northwestern University’s Department of Preventive Medicine and Graduate School, and completed general surgery and urologic surgery residencies at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
My position at CINJ includes serving as director of the kidney cancer program and as CINJ’s site director for urologic oncology residency education. My research aims to improve outcomes and quality of life in patients being treated for urologic cancers and to develop tools that will help physicians and patients determine outcomes and prognosis after cancer treatment. I have received numerous regional and national awards for my research and have presented my work at the Chicago Urological Society, and the American Urological Association and American Society of Clinical Oncology National Meetings.
I have authored and/or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and five book chapters and serve on the review editorial board of several journals, such as the Archives of Internal Medicine, the Journal of Urology, Frontiers in Genitourinary Oncology, and Scientific World Urology. I am an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the American Urological Association and the Society of Urologic Oncology.
