Research Interests

  • Paramount to understanding the mechanisms employed by nephrotoxicants is understanding the disposition of these chemicals within proximal tubules. The cancer drug cisplatin is actively secreted and reabsorbed by uptake and efflux transporters in the kidneys. We have identified renal toxicants as substrates of transporters and characterized the regulation of kidney transporters during acute kidney injury.
  • Early and sensitive detection of chemotherapy toxicities is paramount for intervening and preventing organ damage. Our laboratory explores relationships between urinary protein biomarkers of kidney injury along with pharmacogenetic variants in oncology patients receiving cisplatin.
