Cancer Research Career Enhancement and Related Activities
Cancer research education, training and career enhancement activities at Rutgers Cancer Institute encompass a broad spectrum of formal training programs, seminars, conferences and educational events spanning the academic continuum from Middle School through Postgraduate with Career Enhancement continuing to include faculty. Rutgers Cancer Institute is home to New Jersey's only residency program in radiation oncology and it serves as a training ground for numerous hematology/oncology fellows, surgical oncology fellows and breast cancer fellows each year.
Rutgers Cancer Institute serves as the host of two important educational forums each year which bring together leading experts in the cancer research field. In collaboration with the New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research, the institute hosts the Annual Retreat on Cancer Research to provide a forum for New Jersey's scientists to gather and discuss the latest cancer research being conducted throughout the state. The Governor's Conference on Effective Partnering in Cancer Research brings together world-renowned leaders from the field to discuss the latest science and make recommendations for improving the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer.
Nursing Education
The Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey's oncology nursing education program provides cancer nurses with an opportunity to engage in continuing education of a variety of topics. Through Rutgers Cancer Institute, thousands of nurses across the state receive the training and education they need to keep current on cancer nursing practices.
Patient Education
Cancer presents many challenges to patients and their families. At Rutgers Cancer Institute, we believe that well informed patients can better deal with those challenges. Knowledge about cancer helps patients to become active participants in their health care. Knowing about cancer risk factors can help people prevent certain cancers. Awareness of early warning signs can lead to earlier detection, when cancer is in the most treatable stages. The Resource and Learning Center (RLC) provides reliable, relevant and current information about all aspects of cancer.

Skin Smart Campus
Rutgers University has been recognized as a Skin Smart Campus by The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention. Ensuring the well-being of our students, we are providing a safe and healthy learning and living environment on and off campus, pledging to keep indoor tanning devices off our campus and our affiliated buildings. We also promote skin cancer prevention policies and education.
