Research Interests

  • Current interests in cancer research are focused on projects in survivorship, including 1) how elderly cancer survivors' health beliefs and cancer worry affect their behaviors in managing other chronic illnesses, 2) how these can be affected by interactions with nursing staff, 3) communications with physicians and nurses about cancer survivorship and self-care, 4) disparities in time from diagnosis to treatment, and how survivors’ social capital can be enhanced to improve outcomes
  • How effective physician-nurse communications can improve care for cancer survivors in long term care. Related research interests focus on patient/provider trust and health literacy among underserved populations.
