I have been a nurse since 1992. I started at RWJ as a nurse extern on pediatrics in 1991. I continued my career on pediatrics and progressed from a graduate nurse to RN. I went to Seton Hall University and graduated with Honors and my BSN. My first patient was an adolescent with Osteogenic Sarcoma and my love for pediatric oncology started there. While working on pediatrics, I was a preceptor for new nurses, started primary care nursing, was involved in patient education and also became certified in oncology. I went back to school and obtained my Master's degree in nursing.
Being a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse, I worked as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology outpatient clinic. I have been working collaboratively with the physicians since 1996. I have a vast array of knowledge and experiences across the spectrum of pediatric hematology and oncology.
I started the LITE program which is a survivorship program for oncology patients who are off therapy 2 years or more and disease free. This program provides patients who completed therapy with many opportunities. We provide a detailed treatment summary to each patient, educate them on all the potential late effects of therapy, bi-annual newsletter, and a yearly education night for families. In addition, we are involved in many research projects with survivors.
Our Advanced Practice Providers work in collaboration with the physicians in their respective oncology programs and may not always be scheduled directly.
