Summer Clinical Research Internship Program

Rutgers Cancer Institute, the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in New Jersey, welcomes interested and enthusiastic students from various backgrounds interested in participating in a ten-week summer clinical oncology research internship program.

Internships with Rutgers Cancer Institute provide an excellent opportunity to participate in clinical trials that assist in finding ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. College students have the opportunity to assist researchers in helping the fight against cancer through innovative clinical trials. Lastly, an internship at Rutgers Cancer Institute provides a chance to develop professional skills and support various university initiatives.

Program Overview

  • The program runs for ten weeks, from June through August. The start date is flexible.
  • The internship requires a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week.
  • Depending on the position, Interns can work virtually on the completion of initial in-person orientation and training. 

Essential Duties

  1. Working with and shadowing senior clinical research staff.

  2. Meeting regularly with faculty and receiving ongoing mentoring.

  3. Develop essential research skills in recruitment, subject, and protocol management.

Eligibility

  • Applying students must be enrolled in either an associate, undergraduate or a graduate program.
  • Applying students must have a GPA of 3.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale.
  • Preference is given to candidates with prior research experience and who have taken advanced science courses.
