Pat Gulhati, MD, PhD

Dr. Gulhati received a Bachelor of Science in Physiology (Honors) from The University of British Columbia. As an undergraduate, he performed research in the laboratory of Dr. Poul Sorensen to identify novel interaction partners of the chimeric oncoprotein, ETV6-NTRK3, which is implicated in cancers of varying lineages. He subsequently completed Physician-Scientist training in the combined MD/PhD program at The University of Texas. During the summer before starting medical school, he performed research in the laboratory of Dr. Don Powell elucidating the role played by Wnt proteins secreted from stromal myofibroblasts on colorectal cancer (CRC) stem cell differentiation and self-renewal.

He subsequently completed his PhD dissertation research, under the mentorship of Dr. B Mark Evers, dissecting the role of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling in CRC tumorigenesis, metastasis and therapeutic resistance. After completing Internal Medicine residency training at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, he pursued subspecialty training in Medical Oncology and a post-doctoral fellowship in Dr. Ronald DePinho’s laboratory at the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center. His post-doctoral research focused on pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), one of the most aggressive and lethal cancers. Employing genetically engineered mouse models and surgically resected human specimens, he dissected the complex interplay between T cells and myeloid cells in the tumor microenvironment and their role in mediating response to immunotherapy in PDAC.
