About Me

I am thrilled to join Rutgers Cancer Institute and RWJBarnabas Health at the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated cancer center in the state, as part of the Supportive Onco-Dermatology Team. I will be providing specialized dermatologic care to our cancer patients, addressing and managing the significant skin-related side effects that can arise from their treatments. Our philosophy centers on providing seamless, integrated care, allowing patients to focus on their health and well-being without the added burden of seeking outside specialists for dermatologic issues.

I will also provide care to patients at high risk for skin cancer due to a history of prior skin cancers, including melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Furthermore, I will assist our hematology team in the treatment of skin diseases affecting B-cells, including bullous pemphigoid, pemphigus vulgaris, foliaceous pemphigus, and paraneoplastic pemphigus.

My interest in the evolving field of supportive onco-dermatology/oncologic dermatology stems from my research background and clinical training. I contributed to research in the molecular medicine of skin disease, culminating in a PhD from one of the world's largest and most productive dermatology laboratories at Jefferson Medical College. Subsequently, I completed my dermatology residency at the University of Miami. The program's scope provided extensive exposure to both common and rare diseases, and its inpatient service offered invaluable experience in managing the dermatologic needs of critically ill patients. This experience equipped me with the skills necessary to diagnose and treat a wide range of skin cancers and other dermatologic conditions.

Modern cancer treatment increasingly relies on a comprehensive understanding of molecular medicine, particularly as we leverage the immune system to combat cancer. However, this manipulation of the immune system can sometimes lead to dysregulation, resulting in significant skin-related side effects. Early diagnosis and treatment of these effects are crucial to prevent complications that could lead to hospitalization. It's important to remember that skin cancer is the most common type of cancer, with a higher incidence than all other cancers combined.
