Rutgers Cancer Institute offers a summer volunteer program for teens who want to serve their community in a world-class healthcare setting. Volunteers support the hospital by greeting, directing and escorting visitors, visiting patients on nursing floors, and discharging patients.
The teen summer program requires an 8-hour commitment per week. Monday through Friday, morning and afternoon only.
Please be aware that we do not offer internships or shadowing opportunities for teens.
Our special summer program for teen/high-school volunteers will run from
Monday, June 29th- August 21st, 2026.
Volunteer Service Requirements
To be eligible for our summer volunteer program, teens need to meet the following service requirements:
- Age: 14 to 17 years old (must have completed ninth grade)
- Application: Answer interview questions regarding skills and experience levels so we can get to know you
- Time Commitment: Volunteers should be available 8 hours a week for the duration of the program
- Dress Code: all volunteers are required to wear the provided volunteer uniform/T-shirt. No sweatpants or pajamas, volunteers must wear dark jeans or khakhi slacks only. Sneakers are required, no slippers allowed.
- Vaccination: All volunteers MUST be fully vaccinated
