Coping & Decision-Making in Cancer.
Aim 1: Categorize and measure the different assimilation-accommodation efforts patients use.
Hypothesis: Factor analysis of our new measure will show distinct types of efforts, falling into two broader categories of assimilation and accommodation.
Aim 2: Identify which baseline assimilation-accommodation efforts predict better subsequent
patient and care outcomes. Outcomes examined include patient prognostic understanding,
psychological well-being, treatment decision-making, end-of-life care, and caregiver outcomes.
Hypothesis: Higher baseline accommodation efforts will predict better outcomes; assimilation
efforts will show opposite associations.
