RADA16 for Skin Graft Donor Site Wound Healing
AIM 1: Assess whether RADA16 decreases the skin graft donor site pain for patients undergoing free flap reconstruction surgery?
There is data in the literature to support that certain pain after free flap reconstruction is multifactorial and can arise from the skin graft donor site. There is limited data discussing the role of RADA16 in decreasing post-operative pain. We hypothesize that due to RADA16 s ability to positively contribute to wound healing may result in decreased perception of pain at the skin graft donor site.
AIM 2: Determine whether RADA16 improves the aesthetic outcomes at skin graft donor sites?
Aesthetic outcomes are an important consideration of any surgical procedure, as patient well-being and mental health are often correlated with the aesthetic outcomes from surgical procedures. We intend to measure aesthetic outcomes by two means: an objective color mismatch and a validated scar scale. Aesthetic outcomes at donor sites may be impacted by subsequent inflammation and poor wound healing. By mitigating inflammation and promoting wound healing, RADA16 may improve aesthetic outcomes.
