The Dr. Thomas Kearney Oncology Fellows Fund has been established in memory of our friend and colleague, Dr. Thomas Kearney, Chief of Breast Surgery at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Section of Breast Surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, who passed away in December 2017.
Dr. Kearney joined Rutgers Cancer Institute in 1995 and was instrumental in establishing the Breast Oncology Program and as Chief of Breast Surgery, additional outstanding programs at our Somerset and Hamilton affiliates. He also developed New Jersey’s only Society of Surgical Oncology-recognized Breast Fellowship Program at Rutgers Cancer Institute and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Kearney was dedicated to mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty members. His passion also extended to the thousands of patients to whom he provided outstanding compassionate care.
The Dr. Thomas Kearney Oncology Fellows Fund will provide opportunities for Fellows to supplement their training with educational activities such as attending and presenting at conferences or pursuing scholarly research. This fund is a testament to Dr. Kearney’s dedication to improving the future of patient care through education in the fellowship program.
