Rutgers Cancer Institute and RWJBarnabas Health Neuro-Oncology Leader Recognized by National Women’s Organization

New Brunswick, NJ September 29, 2025 – Women Leaders in Oncology has named Morana Vojnic, MD, MBA, Director of Neuro-Oncology for Rutgers Cancer Institute and System Leader for Neuro-Oncology for RWJBarnabas Health the 2025 Woman Oncologist of the Year. The award honors a senior professional who is a respected individual in her field and who has modeled excellence in leadership. It also recognizes a woman who exhibits strong business acumen and the ability to share her skills with others. Vojnic was presented the award September 27, 2025, during the annual Leadership Empowerment and Development (LEAD) conference. 

“Women physician scientists play an important role in oncology regarding both clinical practice and research,” said Vojnic. “As a physician who is also invested in translational and clinical research for central nervous system tumors, it is truly an honor to be recognized by the Women Leaders in Oncology.”

Vojnic has extensive research experience specifically in precision oncology and is invested in translational and clinical research for central nervous system tumors. She is the author of several major research manuscripts, including a co-first journal article in Cancer Discovery exploring MET fusions as drivers of oncogenesis in solid tumors, manuscripts in Nature Cancer, Journal of Thoracic Oncology, Communications Biology - a Nature journal, Journal of Neuro-Oncology and Clinical Cancer Research amongst others. Additionally, she has served as a principal investigator and co-investigator and many clinical trials for primary and secondary brain tumors.

Vojnic completed her Medical Degree at the University of Ljubljana, in Slovenia, graduating with honors and her MBA at IEDC Bled School of Management. She subsequently completed her Internal Medicine residency and Hematology/Medical oncology fellowship at Zucker School of Medicine/Hofstra, Lenox Hill Hospital, Northwell Health.
