PIONEER (Preparing for Implementation and Optimization of aNal scrEEning and tReatment)
Aim 1. Identify anal cancer screening and treatment perceptions and needs from multiple stakeholders in high HIV burden areas of NJ. We will conduct a contextual assessment by interviewing patients, advocates, providers, and administrators in Essex and Hudson counties to explore anal cancer screening and treatment knowledge, experiences, barriers, and preferences. We will assess cytology, anoscopy, and treatment capacity across multiple clinical specialists and will identify intervention components to fit patients needs and wants.
Aim 2. Design an anal cancer screening and treatment intervention for PLWH and select implementation strategies to create a tailored implementation toolkit. We will systematically and theoretically match solutions to intervention needs and implementation barriers. We will prioritize strategies through expert consensus using a modified Delphi technique and refine intervention components with patient focus group feedback to prepare for implementation.
