Coping and Decision-Making in Cancer II

Aim 1: Examine prospective associations between patient-reported social obligations and patient-reported outcomes.

Aim 2: Examine prospective associations between patient-reported social obligations and health services outcomes.

Aim 3 (Qualitative): Characterize key stakeholder perspectives on the problems posed by social obligations and potential solutions.

The resulting data will establish whether perceived social obligations are associated with patient-reported and health services outcomes at the end-of-life for patients with advanced cancer by longitudinally linking patient survey data to EHR-abstracted outcomes. Additionally, perspectives and experiences of multiple stakeholders -- patients, family members, oncologists, and palliative care clinicians -- collected through
qualitative interviews will help provide a richer contextual understanding, identifying manifestations of social obligation, its associated challenges, and potential solutions.
