How to Download an eBook to a Computer

Follow the instructions below to read an ebook on your computer without downloading or saving the eBook.

  1. Call or email library staff for a user name and password.  Phone number and email can found on the right sidebar of this page under the Contact Us heading. You will be asked for your name and the patient's name, if you are not the patient.
  2. Use this username and password to log into the EBSCO website.
  3. At the database selection page, click "eBook Collection" to search or browse the collection.
  4. Click on the eBook you'd like to read.  Choose PDF full text, EPUB full text, or Table of Contents.  
  5. Do not choose to download the eBook unless you have made and are logged in your person account (see section below).
  6. Remember that the eBook will not be saved without a personal account.

Follow the instructions below to download an eBook (with Adobe Digital Editions and a personal account).

  1. Call or email library staff for a user name and password.  Phone number and email can found on the right sidebar of this page under the Contact Us heading. You will be asked for your name and the patient's name, if you are not the patient.
  2. Download Adobe Digital Editions. This is free software and is available for both Mac and Windows computers.
  3. Use this username and password to log into the EBSCO website.
  4. Before selecting which collection you would like to browse, you will need to register for a free personal account, or sign into your existing EBSCO account. Click “Sign In” at the top right-hand side of the web page.
  5. If you already have a personal EBSCO account, login in using your username and password. If you do not, click “Create a New Account” and follow the instructions to create a username and password.
  6. When you have returned to the database selection page, click "eBook Collection" to search or browse the collection.
  7. Click on the eBook you would like to borrow. Click the "Download" link to begin downloading an eBook to your computer.
  8. Select a download duration (time you want to have the book for) from the drop-down menu.
  9. The eBook is added to the Checkouts area of your folder.
  10. Select Open with or Save File from the dialog box.  If you select Open with, your eBook is opened with Adobe Digital Editions.  If you select Save File, the ebook is saved to your computer and can be opened at a later time.
  11. Enjoy your eBook! Your eBook will be returned automatically for you.

Instructions for Using a Barnes & Noble Nook or Sony Reader 

If you want to use your Nook or Sony Reader, follow the steps above first.  Then follow these steps:

  • Plug your reader into the USB port of your computer.
  • Your eBooks and eBook device are displayed.
  • Select an eBook to transfer.
  • Drag and drop it onto the icon for your connected device in the left column.
  • The eBook is transferred to your device.
  • Disconnect your device from your computer to begin reading the eBook.
